Concrete Cutting and Polishing in Anchorage, AK

We saw-cut joints, trenches and clean edges, and we grind and polish floors for shops, stores, garages and basements in Anchorage. Tell us if the slab has radiant heat tubing before any cutting is planned.

Cutting and polishing are two different trades that share the same tools. Cutting means sawing concrete in a straight, clean line. We cut control joints in new slabs, trenches for plumbing or electrical lines, openings for a floor drain, and neat edges where an old slab will be partly removed. A sawn edge lets the new concrete meet the old without a ragged break.

Joint cutting is time-critical. A new slab starts to shrink within hours, and if the joints are not cut soon enough it cracks wherever it likes. On Anchorage's cool days the concrete sets slowly, so the cut may be made later the same day or the next morning. We watch the slab, not the clock. Indoor cutting is done wet or with a vacuum to keep dust out of the building.

Polishing grinds a floor with finer and finer diamond pads until it is smooth and hard, then treats it with a densifier. A polished floor resists dust and is easy to mop, which suits shops, stores, garages and basements here, where grit and meltwater come in on every boot for half the year. It works on new slabs and on many old ones once coatings and glue are ground off.

Concrete cutting and polishing in Anchorage: common questions

Can you cut a trench in my garage floor for a drain?

Yes. We saw two clean lines, remove the strip, and pour it back after the plumber sets the pipe. If the slab has radiant heat tubing, we need to know before any cutting.

Is a polished floor slippery when wet?

A properly polished floor has more grip than it looks, but meltwater and oil reduce traction on any smooth surface. For garages we often stop at a lower sheen, which is easier underfoot.

Can an old basement floor be polished?

Often, yes. The slab has to be hard enough and reasonably flat. Old glue, paint and patches are ground off first, and some marks may remain as part of the look.

Great Company to work with. They provided detailed and fair pricing for a coloured, stamped concrete job at a residential location. The job was completed on time, the site was kept tidy, and excellent workmanship. Well done, The Anchorage Concrete Company.
